On the Fox movies that use it, everything I've heard so far puts it up there with LPCM and Dolby TrueHD. It is phenomenal on these titles:
  • Fantastic Four:Silver Surfer
  • Mr. Brooks
  • Live Free or Die Hard
I notice the biggest improvement over the DTS core in the music, but the surround effects also sound a bit fuller and smoother.
On other titles that are not as demanding, the DTS core v. DTS-HD MA difference is much more subtle. (i.e. the Prison Break Season 1, which I've watched all of now). I also have a PS3. If the PS3 ever gets DTS-HD MA decoding it will probably only pass it as PCM through HDMI to the receiver. Even if that occurs, it is preferable to do the audio decoding and processing in the receiver - not the player.

Thanks Jim. Much appreciated. One more question: Is TrueHD the same thing as PCM?
