For starters danman, your HT is off to a good start, as Polk makes very good speakers. IMO, I would do exactly what you are suggesting. I would move the speakers as far wide as you can get them and take the sub out of the corner. Perhaps in might sound better between the TV stand and the far right wall, on the inside and next to the right front (at least 1 foot from the back wall will help as well.) This may reduce any "boominess" you might sens from the sub (if you are hearing any.) More pics of the rest of the room would really help as well.
