As with others, I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I also enjoyed the miniseries. Here's the thing about adaptations of King - it's all about the ACTING. The best part about his books are the characters. How much I enjoy one of his books depends entirely on how much I enjoy the characters. That's just his style - a lot of time spent on character development. So it's no coincidence that the films/miniseries I enjoy have good acting performances: Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Shining, Misery, Carrie, Stand By Me, The Stand, It, Salem's Lot. The weaker movies: Cujo, Pet Semetary, Needful things, langoliers all have weaker acting (in my opinion anyway).

And, the other key is keeping Stephen King himself out of it as much as possible. Great writer but he just doesn't do a good job of deciding what to carry over into a movie. If for no other reason than he had to remake The Shining - for that alone he should never touch anything again. Sure it was different than the book, but it was great because Jack made it great. I'll be curious to see how it turns out.
