Your old tapes are not high definition, and are not likely of the highest quality for video and audio.

Both formats will have a far higher quality than you will ever need for video tape dubs. The format is all digital, so, of course your video will be in a digital format. But, the quality, as said above, will never be any better than the original. Actually, anytime you go from an analog original, like VHS to another format, there is at least a little bit of quality loss, though with good cables and attention to detail, this quality loss is minimal.

You could also edit them into your PC and make DVDs or do any number of other things with your old videos.
