Yeah, most of the time it comes down to companies not being inventive enough to think of ways of getting around printing them directly onto the package (if its a steelbook or digibook).

I'm generally alright with it though, I've grown up with them and like knowing the ratings of things here in the UK. I actually think the BBFC ratings logos are the nicest and most inconspicuous ratings logos I've seen from any country, but the Irish ones are hideous and it's unfortunate that they have to be put there as well.

I guess I also see it as part of the price to pay of having a largely decent and transparent ratings system (nowadays at least)... The US ratings system may not harm the design of packaging but it harms the film industry, I'll take a couple of logos from the BBFC over the practices of the MPAA any day.
