How did Terrance Malick get such a good reputation? Have there really been no other directors that start off by making two very good movies (with 5 years between the two) and then take a huge break before following up with another film? It seems like a good strategy to get a super reputation.

All I can think of is Alexandro Jodorowsky that followed a similar pattern. Any more directors that have done the huge break between films?
