I just finished reading
My Own Kind of Freedom which, while not officially sanctioned, is an excellent way to revisit the 'verse and all those characters.
If you haven't heard of
My Own Kind of Freedom, here's what the
Firefly wikia has to say on it:
Quote:
My Own Kind of Freedom: A Firefly Novel is a novel written by established fantasy novelist Steven Brust "on spec". It was originally proposed as an official Firefly novel to be licensed by Universal Pictures, but it was rejected. In 2008 it was instead published by Brust on the internet under a Creative Commons license as fan fiction.

Brust completely
nailed the tone of
Firefly and its characters. They all sound like themselves, the character relationships are spot on, and the story is definitely
Firefly-esque.
It's mindboggling why it was rejected, but since there are no official novelizations set in the
Firefly universe, I guess the powers that be have simply decided not to pursue that.
Anyway, it's set between the end of the TV series and before the movie, although it doesn't attempt describing any of the major happenings in between those two. It's entirely standalone.
So, if you're hankering for some more
Firefly I can wholeheartedly recommend reading
My Own Kind of Freedom. See the first link in this post for how to get your hands on it.
