but to answer your question, you can only get 2.0 Lossless (PCM) audio from an optical cable. For surround (5.1-7.1PCM) from a PS3 you need an HDMI cable.

So I can't have surround sound via optical then? I guess I'll stick with the HDMI then. although it really just look better straight to the tv!!!!
