I noticed that BD doesn't fill the whole screen, but preserves the aspect ratio. I've tried numerous ratios on SD and they all fill the screen...I fee like this is having a negative effect on the upconversion quality. It's like the whole picture is "zoomed in" to fit on the screen--but I've checked all the settings and can't seems to find one that says just play the standard dvd aspect ratio.
Any thoughts or help? Does anyone else have this setup with this issue?
(note: I tried searching the forums and I couldn't find this particular issue.)

EDIT: I found one! Hot Fuzz on SD still maintains the aspect ratio. But this still worries me because the upconvert on movies that "fill" the screen is disappointing compared to the Hot Fuzz upconvert.

It might be possible that the TV is doing it as well. The player may recognize the 4:3 aspect ratio, but the TV may be wanting to play it back at a 16:9 ratio. Check the TV settings to see what options are available there.
