I think Ricshoe is correct BUT I never take a chance that there might be, could be, probably be a difference between running a cable from the player to the receiver to the TV vs running directly from the player to the TV.
I like eliminating the middle component (the receiver) and run directly to the TV JUST IN CASE! BUT it also depends on the quality of the player's video processor.

Anyway, if you go directly to the tv, how do you have the audio hooked up to your receiver? Just curious.
