The people saying it was a poor choice are mathematically incorrect. The format war is ending only because warner went blu exclusive. Barring that unexpected move the War lasts at least 3 more years. Warner goes HD-DVD then HD-DVD would have won in 3 years(50% market share with most of the major franchises)

I bought a Combo drive for my PC gaming machine because I must buy futureproof tech. It's that simple. I supported Blu because it was the better product. But I made sure if it lost, my tech was still good.

Now that Blu is definately going to win, we may buy a standalone player for our big screen. Otherwise we were gonna wait out the 3 years and I'd just watch a few High Def movies on my 24" HD PC Monitor.

As for OP asking why you don't support both? Simple economics, HD content won't last if there's two competing formats. This war is not the same as VCR/Beta in that war, you either had one or the other or none at all. In this war the poor are just upgrading to DVD and the Upper classes are deciding this war with the Upper-Middle classes watching to see who's gonna win and ONLY then will they get on the action.

Nor should I have to buy two players to watch all movies. I like alot of Universal and Paramount movies. Even though I have a combo drive I support blu, I like High-Def sound and I want increased bit rates on my Video. I don't want a lower quality product. And I want to be able to buy ALL the movies I like on one futureproof product.

I bought my combo drive on dec. 27th, when the war looked to be going 3 years, Warner changed that and I have no regrets whatsoever. I still paid less then most of you did for your Single-format players. $250 to play Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

I now own 10 Blu-rays and 1 HD-DVD. I prefer the Blu-ray's and I'm happy they're winning. But don't say that it was a bad decision to protect oneself in the long-term, because that kind of statement is extremely shortsighted and done in hindsight.
