the criterion dvd also seems to have stretched the picture vertically a little bit which has been corrected on this release.

i must say i was surprised since i'm usually a little skeptical of imports and because criterion did such a great job on the dvd (btw almost 10 years ago now, 2003) but this is definitely worth it if you don't want to wait for a criterion blu-ray.

great buy. great movie.
Between your caps and the ones at caps-a-holic I do see a slight vertical stretch on the Criterion in certain shots, but in others it seems completely absent, with just a slight shift in frame position on the blu-ray. The Criterion looks top notch for SD, with the blu from the same master giving a modest improvement in all areas. Same situation as Criterion's Straw Dogs vs the MGM BD.

Edit: Actually, I see the slight stretch in every shot in the caps-a-holic, but in a couple of your grabs it seems absent, such as the second grab of Peter Weller's face. Weird. My guess is it's just not an exact frame match and the stretch is probably there the whole time.
