Glad you're ok!
I know how frightening it must've been, as we have them here too. Although no tornadoes have yet hit my neighborhood while I've lived here, I've seen the aftermath of tornadic conditions several times (usually mid-spring). I dread having to get the roof repaired and cleaning up all the fallen trees and limbs.
There is a chance that same line of storms will wreak havoc in my area today as we're due east of you.
I agree that having these storms at night is even more terrifying because you can't see them coming.
Back in '96 (my first summer here) hurricane Fran came through my area and peaked at midnight.
There was no where to go, but just wait it out.
(Basements are great but I don't have one.)
