The Event ended on an awesome cliffhanger. As a sci-fi fan, I was sad to see the show not go to a second season because it would've been awesome.

Agreed! Not every show can hit the ground running. It can sometimes take a few episodes or an entire season to find it's footing....some take more than that. Star Trek Enterprise took 2 seasons for it catch hold. Season 3 and 4 were immensely better. Babylon 5, season 1 was crap...the rest is apparently excellent with a spotty fifth season. Everyone's different for how long they'll give a show before giving up though. I liked The Event from the second it started, but something like Surface took several episodes to catch me...or Jericho that a whole season to convince me.... (sci-fi shows).
