Yay! Region-free! That's just great, thank you! Pre-ordering a copy right away...
Now I just wish the film gets the proper treatment it deserves.
I was lucky enough to see the world premiere in Berlin and it must have been screened from a very fresh copy of the original negative or something as I had never seen anything like that in a cinema before. The picture quality was simply breathtaking - incredibly sharp, clean, pristine transfer. It was hard to believe I was watching "just" 35mm.
I'm saying this because when the film hit the cinemas in our country (Czech Republic) a few months later, I went to see it again in our local cinema, and it was a real disappointment. It was supposed to be a 35mm copy as well, but the picture was far from what I saw back in Berlin. The image had this weird sepia-like hue as opposed to pure black and white from Berlin copy and the whole picture seemed a bit softer. The same case was the official Greek DVD release I also watched, again that nasty hue. It seems that only Blu-ray has the potential to come close to the Berlin presentation I recall. I wish the best of luck in getting it right to whoever prepares this release! ;-)
