They can't share the code as each was individual to the particular student and linked to that persons account.
This is based upon my recollection of the scheme when I was eligible in he early 2000s, no reason to think it changed. HMV were always very slack with taking off a person's online account as mine lasted for a year after I ceased to be eligible. It did not work past expiry instore as the physical cards had a year expiry date and you had to have the relevant student id card as well which was checked by staff in my local store each time you made a purchase.
