Its only been in the last 5 years or so that he's been utilized as much as he has, both within the books and outside media. My god, there was a time where he had like 5 books coming a month. It was like 2-3 ongoings and then a constant stream of minis and oneshots revolving around him and spinoff characters, Lady Deadpool, Kidpool, Headpool and Dogpool. It got pretty ridiculous till they realized he was being oversaturated and not selling the Wolverine and Spider-Man numbers

but now you assume all fans care about the books/ comics exc. he could have had a new comic and book every week and I'd never know. I'd also assume that while their may be a hardcore minority much like baseball cards or even stamps as an example, it's far from mainstream.
