Well, wasn't Kelly an "airhead" in addition to becoming "slutty" as the seasons of Married with Children progressed? Her character in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead was actually a departure from that typecast she was going to be cornered into because her character started off clueless but matures and becomes responsible and professional about half-way through. It really was a good role for Applegate because she was able to show she could do more than what studios and casting directors expected from her. I just don't like the smoking that her character picks up. Seemed like a cheap way to show maturity while influencing kids like me to think that it's attractive behavior to smoke.

Yeah, that's true. As Married With Children continued it took the "dumb blonde" stereotype a bit too far I thought with making Kelly so stupid that she couldn't read or spell and yeah your right as her intelligence dropped the character became much more slutty.
I agree 100% with what you said about Applegate I do agree that it was a good role because it gave her an opportunity to show that she could do more than just play an "airhead" which again she was known for at that time on Married With Children so perhaps in way this saved her from being sterotyped in the future. What do you think?
