1080p HDTV with a 1080i output source
Hi. You've all been very helpful in answering all of my questions since I've been a member here. Thank you so much.
I have an HDTV capable of 1080p resolution output. My upconverting DVD player has an maximum output of 1080i. I've heard that 720p is technically superior to 1080i simply because it is progressive and you always get the 720 lines of resolution on the screen. Whereas with 1080i, it is interlaced, and you're only really getting half the resolution (540) at any given time. So my question is, with a 1080p HDTV, is it better to set the upconverting DVD player for 1080i or 720p output for the best possible image quality?
