I enjoyed your review, and was wondering what you meant by your statement
[Show spoiler] that you were expecting the Riddles in the Dark section to be darker?
I personally felt the riddle scene was well done, but thought that the glaring omission was the beginning of that part of the chapter, when Bilbo awakes from unconsciousness to find that he is alone in the dark. This is where he is completely alone, totally self-dependent, and has to muster his long-suppressed courage to move forward. IMO this was one of the most important scenes of the entire story, as it was a major stage in the evolution of Bilbo's character, and well... yes, it was left out of the movie.
