No, I use a high quality photo paper. I have heard that a lot of people use semi-glossy for their custom covers.
My space issue is really my wife's space issue. When we moved in April of last year (to a bigger house no less) it was a struggle for me to even be allowed to unpack my Blu-rays. My wife wanted me to leave them in their packing boxes.
Then when I did start unpacking them she complained that Blu-ray cases are "ugly" and discussed with her family's ways that we could hide them (e.g. a burlap cover was one of the ideas tossed around) so she wouldn't have to look at them.
Then, whenever we have friends over she comments on my "ridiculous obsession" with collecting Blu-rays. No matter that she has over 400 music CDs.
