I'm not familiar with the S-300 but I think it can bitstream TrueHD and DTS HDMA via HDMI. So you can get the Onkyo 605 and use that for another three years
or you could get the S-500 and then in three years get a HDMI receiver. That's really up to you and what you think all of this is worth.
I have a PS3 so if I was in your situation, I'd get a HDMI receiver.
