2 D to 3 D conversion on the cheap. 1/3 the cost and mostly automated. Don't expect Titanic 3D quality. Not even close.
JVC actually developed a work station which probably brings in some of that technology from that "IF-2D3D1 3D Image Processor" to assist rotoscoping, however most (not all) other studios do the same whether the assist be through Mocha, YUV, AEE, NUKE, etc. The conversion process still requires artists to fill in stretched blanks - the incredibly fast time they can achieve a conversion shows in the quality of the conversion which after I, Robot (which I rewatched and commented on in that topic the other day) leads me to say this:

It is a true 3d conversion, however the less parallax / depth, the less to clean up - the faster the process.
