Transformers is pretty terrible like you said, and with amazing special effects. If you love CGI, do yourself a favour and watch some scenes from the Transformers sequels. The jump in detail from one movie to the next is amazing, and the inclusion of 3D in the third movie finally allows the added depth to separate the Transformers during fight sequences, giving the audience a picture of two complex robots, and not thousands of wires/nuts/bolts/etc. twisting around one another, confusing the viewer.
There was 12 terabytes of CGI data for the first Transformers movie, and 140 terabytes for the second one. Unfortunately, these movies suck. I own all three...
Pacific Rim and Star Trek are my most anticipated films of this year. Not for special effects alone, but the ones shown in the trailers of these two films is what has me watching them over and over again...
