Secondly I truly hope Howard Shore does do new music and they infact take the time to rescore parts of the film. Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised to see tracked music used for parts if the theatrical cut is anything to go by. And the deluxe version of 'The White Council' on the soundtrack suggests that some of the extended material has already been scored.
I have already said that this project will require plenty of work and couldn't be released this March. And I agree, I don't see why a major studio would release both together when there's money to be made. I'm just saying that I don't think the Extended Edition necessarily requires 9 months of work. The fact that Jackson had it cut pretty much by Christmas suggests to me that he's quite eager to get it done and focus all his efforts on the remaining two films.

Howard Shore wrote new music for the added scenes in the LOTR EE so I would expect the same here. That being said his score was mishandled in the TE of AUJ so the EE May also have tracked music. I really hope he goes back and puts back his original cues and takes out the tracked music. Especially the witchking theme playing during thorin's showdown with Azog. I would also be ecstatic if they took out that godawful melodramatic shot of Dwalin screaming noooo in slow motion when azog attacks thorin.
