So I have a couple questions about TrueHD and the whole DialNorm thing that I was going to ask in the DTS-HDMA thread before things got out of control. I actually had all this typed and went to post and the thread was closed... Thanks Wicky! Geez!!!
Anyway, my questions are, what is the point of DialNorm? I've heard that it's to better hide compression, is that true? Also, when/how is it applied to TrueHD tracks? Do they take a master, lower it however many db (I think it's ussually 4) and then encode the TrueHD track from that? I am not that smart when it comes to the whole TrueHD/DTS-HD aspect of things. I know how to get them decoded and all that jazz, but I don't know about the stuff behind the scenes which is why I am asking.
