I usually prefer 3rd person because I feel more immersed when I can actually see my character and what he looks like. It helps me identify with the toon more.

I do agree that games like Oblivion, RB6V2 (yes, there is a 'cheat code' you can enter to make everything 3rd person!), GRAW, etc., that allow you too choose first person or third person is the best scenario all around. I really liked Oblivion on my PC when I could use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out of 1st person (it's easier for fighting but just running around 3rd person was more exciting for me).


Edit: Wanted to add that although you may feel like you 'see more' in third person, it's not a whole lot more. In fact, 3rd person is probably closer to how you would actually perceive the world in real-life. I know this sounds odd at first; however, in first person you have basically no peripheral vision (and yes, you can see down halls and 'around corners' in real life pretty easily by only getting a portion of your eye past it thanks to peripherals). I can't tell you how many times I've had someone literally standing right next to me in 1st person and not even known it. In real life, that simply would not ever happen (even if I didn't hear them). I would see them coming long before they were even next to me.
