The Criterion Collection is a video distribution company that consists of important classic and contemporary films from around the world. The company makes it an effort to restore the film to the highest quality possible, while also including a large array of supplements, a custom cover design, and an essay written by a film critic. They are an exceptionally brilliant company and their films are worth every penny, in my opinion.
With that being said, several of us Criterion Collection Discussion members decided that it would be a fun and engaging idea to have a "Criterion Film of the Week". For each week of a given month, we will select a film that each person can optionally watch. Once watched, please feel free to post your thoughts and opinions on the film. This will help the other forum members to get a better understanding and appreciation for the film, as well as the directing styles, subtle messages and themes, and other unique elements incorporated within each film. By doing this "Criterion Film of the Week", hopefully more people will be turned on to The Criterion Collection and will opt to look into their large and diverse catalogue.
As a disclaimer, we will not be using any of the new releases, in particular, for quite awhile because not everybody has the funds or time to go out and purchase them. Therefore, our main focus will be on the older releases. Just a little F.Y.I., you do not have to go out and purchase the films. The titles are available on The Criterion Collection's Hulu Channel, as well as local libraries. For those who want to purchase the films, keep in mind that Barnes 'N Noble has 50% off sales every July and October and Criterion.com has 50% off Flash Sales every February / March and September / November.
We look forward to seeing you all!
