Worried about new films being made.
The audio/Video improvements have been great. I'm even talking about when the theaters first started doing the "THX" certification and "Digital" theaters, etc..... We have better audio/video quality in our homes, and that's great too. I have a concern though, as I believe the trend has already started.
I'd like to preface by saying "please don't focus on any individual title I mention"
O.K..... we know via Life of Brian, Blazing Saddles, Michael Clayton, etc.... that Dramas and Comedies can look really good in Blu-Ray also, but my concern is since Action-Adventure/Sci-Fi etc. with special affects sell so well.... even to the point where people will trade off plot/character development etc. Less and less movies like "Sideways" or Memento for that matter, which are more plot and character driven movies will be produced because studios will have a better chance for a return on their investment if they pump out Die-Hard 7 (Slow-Cancer-Death) rather than putting out more art-house type of films..... I know there will always be small companies putting out content-based niche-market material, and that's great, and I realize as long as you're an enthusiast, like most of us here (movie wise, not just blu-wise) we'll seek out the gems amongst the turds.....
Without getting too long-winded, I'm just concerned I guess.... worried that less budget is gonna be open for dramas etc. because action looks and sounds so much better, and as I said, this trend started BEFORE Blu-ray existed.....
Anyone else see this happening also?
