Default Should PS3 be able to play HDTV recorded in TS, TP, and MTS format? (it does)

Should PS3 be able to play HDTV recorded in TS, TP, and MTS format?

My PS3 doesnt' even show these files on the external hard drive that
I plugged in... but it has no problem playing M2T HDTV files.

I realize I can just convert these files... but I have over 680GB of them
and it will probably take a month to convert all of them...

Any advice appreciated....

EDIT: now I feel like an idiot. I did a little search and found the answer.
Now all files with TS, TP, and MTS extension play beautifually. The only
thing I had to do was to rename all the file extensions to *.MPG
The PS3 just had to be tricked into this.... I sure hope Sony corrects this
in the next firmware..(maybe v2.30, along with DTS-HD MA? )
