At first I didn't like the 2DS. I thought it sounded ridiculous and stupid. But after thinking about it and reading about how it's aimed at budget audiences and kids under the age of 7, it made a lot of sense. In that respect, it's a great system.

It doesn't have a hinge, so the casualty rate will be much less. It has only one screen that appears as two, so it cuts down on cost significantly... and it's a cheaper alternative if you want to play 3DS games but don't like or can't see 3D!

Probably Nintendo's first good decision in a while, even if it is being mocked. The Wii U deserves mocking because of how much of a failure it is and will be. Cutting $50 on the price won't change a damn thing. They should have brought it out for much cheaper initially... and 32 GB? Really?

Then we can talk endlessly about its lack of power in relation to the PS4 and Xbox One. With the Wii, most people shrugged its lack of power off because they know that the Wii was able to deliver experiences that wouldn't be as successful on the other consoles, and some experiences that could only be experienced on the Wii.

But considering the Wii U was supposed to be Nintendo's reach towards the core gamer they lost with the Wii, it fails on every conceivable level and doesn't get a free pass for being a "niche" system. It's not trying to be a niche system this time around.
