and there you have it - surround sound in STEREO headphones is impossible, for A.) the obvious reason - because you're not "surrounded" with speakers and therefore sound, and B.) for the reason Lucy Diamond explained above.
As for good STEREO Headphones I will very highly recommend the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO. They are not the most expensive HPs in the world, but I have found for Mics/Speakers/HPs Most expensive is NOT always the best, For most things in life it is, but not Mics/Speakers/HPs. I have tried and owned many overly expensive HPs in the past few years and the Senn. 280s are the flatest, most accurate, and unhyped HPs I've heard yet. They are the best for me... everyone hears differently so YMMV, but good luck in your search...
