Default English as a 2nd language for an American

I know this sounds strange, but I am lost on Internet searches for this.

The wife and I watch a lot of British television. Whether it is Blu-ray or DVD we get a fair share of British life in the form of comedies, drama and crime shows. Often we hear term 'had a rau' or 'a bit of a rau'. This meant to me 'an argument' or 'a [verbal] fight'.

I am trying to determine the correct spelling. The unfortunate thing is that I am sure it is slang, maybe as an independent word or a section of a larger word. Anyone have any ideas on the correct spelling and origin?
