I compared the extended 3D version (watching in 2D) to the theatrical 2D version I own and they are both identical picture-wise (in 2D). However, after updating the firmware on my Oppo, I was no longer able to view the 3D extended in 2D! It was then 3D only. That option was now greyed out in the player menu.
