Probably because a lot of the "reviewers", "bloggers" and "web sites" that are suspiciously biased towards HD-DVD are paid by Microsoft or Toshiba. Microsoft are well known for paying people to blog positively about their products, because people tend to trust "neutral" reviewers/bloggers/posters more than advertising.
