It wouldn't be that difficult to pull off from a technical point of view.
It would however be very expensive to do.
You would require a new TV/projector, probably a high end model to cope with the extra processing of two HD HFR signals and two new players (either two seperate or one physical unit) that allow for syncing between them (in theory this could be done with a firmware update).
Also any AV reciever you have would need to compatible.
Going beyond that the discs themselves would need to twice the speed and thus hold half the information, The Hobbit extended editions would come on 4 discs, 2 discs per eye.
BDXL + HEVC would probably be a suitable way forward since you would need a new player and TV anyway.
