In the past some people would carelessly feed discs into a slot loader at a slight angle and would put stratches on the disc as its being inserted, that or the physical opening was too narrow and also cause that issue.* With a tray loader that is never a issue.

I have my index finger positioned over the centre hole and my middle finger and thumb holding the edges. I guide it into the slot and once I feel it's secure I release my index and middle fingers and push the disc into the slot with my thumb. No fingerprints required.
