If your DVR needs to be left on in order to record a show then either your DVR is defective or it's use error. Either way, I would look into that if I were you.

Im still new to this DVR thing... probably should read the manual. I suspected it would turn it self on and record if the thing was shut off, but as I said, have not really looked through the manual or even played around with this thing much.
