Default Speakers on popcorn ceiling

Ok, so I will be moving to another apartment next month and I recently got a new receiver that is Atmos-upgradable (via firmware). The thing is that I would much prefer to have ceiling speakers rather than the floor ones that bounce the sound off the ceiling to create the height effect, and the model apartment I was shown has popcorn ceiling.

So, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how I could place the speakers. Of course they will hang from the ceiling rather than being in-ceiling since it is an apartment. They will also be relatively small.

I was thinking of perhaps fixing a stud that would hang from the top of the walls on either side and install the speakers from the stud (I would drill the walls to secure the stud). However, I have no idea of what components I would use. I have looked online but I have found nothing that could actually help.

The set-up would be a 5.1.2.

So, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts and/or ideas?
