Personally, I think it kills theatrical ticket sales. If you know when the DVD or BD or digital version is being released, one can think, "I'll just wait for that."
IMO, the industry is is committing a long, slow suicide. They should never announce pre-orders until the movie has finished its theatrical run. At the very least, they should wait until after two weeks of the theatrical run.
