WANTED Review
Hey folks, I saw a screening of Wanted tonight. Here is a little review with no spoilers that you will not find out in the first few minutes of the movie.
Not knowing the source material I will not be critiquing this against that so take waht you will from it. I enjoyed it highly. The story introduces us to Wesley GIbson, a man who yields zero results when googling himself, whoase father left him and his mother right after his birth, whose girlfriend is cheating on him with his best friend, and whose boss is a big fat ***** to put it nicely. Wesley is soon confronted by Angelina Jolie while picking up his prescription for the severe panic attacks he suffers. He fnds out that his father was in a secret society of assassins and that he was recently killed by a rogue member of the group and that He, Wesley was the only one who culd tak down the killer, because of his inherited sepcial abilities. This sets off a string of action that really keeps you going until the end. I will not go into the plot much because I do not want to spoil anything. Just suffice to say it will keep you interested. All the performances are uniformly impressive, with James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman really standing out. And of Jolie does a great job. Timur Bekmambatov truly is the next great action director, I loved his Nightwatch and Daywatch films so I set this to a pretty high standard before seeing a minute of it and he did not disappoint. His style is carried through this entire movie and the bigger budget I assume he had here really paid off. The effects are awesome, gunplay is fast and viscious definitely earning its R rating. Violent, interesting, and beautifully choreographed with more comedy interspesed than I expected. I fully enjoyed this movie, and I highly recommend it. The only downfall of this movie is that once Wesley begins his missions after training, there just are not enough of them, I wanted to see more. It is an awesome theatrical experience.
