1080p displays (Checkerboard pattern)
I've recently noticed on the new 1080p DLP displays that I'm seeing something that appears similar to interlacing on standard definition (old fashioned) interlaced CRT televisions.
Remember how you used to be able to see the lines when following title scrolls, or anything moving up or down the screen at the correct rate? On the 1080p DLP displays, I'm seeing a very small checkerboard pattern when following moving items in almost any direction. It gives the appearance of every other pixel being off, in a checkerboard pattern. I do remember hearing something about a limitation on 1080p DLP displays, but I don't remember the details.
However, I was surprised the other day to see one of the new Westinghouse 1080p (in an HD-DVD display at Best Buy) display the same effect. So far the only video projectors, displays, televisions, etc., capable of displaying full 1080p resolution on which I haven't seen this effect are Sony's SXRD based units.
