Haven't watched that show either, and the plot revolves around the messy world of marijuana distribution being more complicated, paranoid and double-crossing than it looks, but the mom is definitely NOT intended to be a "tragic" character like Walter, for their intended audiences.
(The weed-pack audience is supposed to think "One of us, one of us!
", while the female empowerment-fantasy audience is supposed to admire this plucky Not Your Average House-Mom character sticking it to the system...)
Oh well, at least we're far away from the 80's when "Original cable series" meant "Canadian boob shots on HBO".
