Perhaps he needs to go into the HARDWARE SETUP menu and take HDMI AUDIO OUT off? This was a problem in my '605...in order to get sound from the speakers connected to the receiver, that "HDMI AUDIO" selection in Hardware Setup under the setup menu must be off...
