How do you feel about Alien: Earth?

Just found out about the Legacy cut of Alien³ and it seems they managed to fix my biggest gripe witn the film, the rough look of the rod puppet. I've seen some clips the editor posted on YouTube and it looks pretty good now. What's your opinion on it?

Weapons is better than Sinners (which is good but not a masterpiece).

Alien 3 is so weird (but good). Weird that the Alien overall looks the worst it does in any of the movies. There are some good shots but the whole movie feels like they never got a handle on how they wanted to show it. Or even what effects technique they wanted to use to bring it to life. It feels all over the place. There's only one real iconic shot of the alien and it's oddly a much less elaborate shot than anything in the first two. There's some early CGI in there if I'm not mistaken...which I think was a mistake if true. You guys probably know what shots I'm referring to. CGI wasn't advanced enough yet for that. They should have stuck with how Ridley did it 100%..

Yes, that was one of the best changes. I saw those clips as well. The original stuck out like a sore thumb, and it's a lot better now. Like a fresh coat of paint on the whole thing, so to speak.

They probably wanted something new in the alien design and in order to sell the idea to the audience, they had to show the alien as a whole (hence those puppet shots). If I'm not mistaken, Giger's original idea was that the alien takes features of its host organism and since it was born from a dog, it had features of a dog.

I haven't checked that out yet but I'd give it a shot based on the creator Noah Hawley.

However, Disney+ isn't really a good use of money for me since I own nearly every Disney property I care about on blu-ray. I'm not sure when I'll get around to seeing it.

Is Alien: Earth any good?

I've no idea about the subsequent versions, but in the original theatrical cut there's only one very brief full cgi alien shot in the film (when the head cracks under the water at the end).

Other than a few cgi shadows here & there in some of the composite shots, the rest of it is all practical or rod puppets.

"fan edits" are worthless to me. This is why, as much as I enjoy the Assembly Cut, I will never watch the Legacy Cut of Alien 3.

(I cannot believe this is an unpopular opinion...)

Halloween Kills is a fantastic sequel
Rob Zombies H2 is one of the most brutal and terrifying Halloween movies
Halloween 4 is better than Halloween 2

Definitely agree about Halloween Kills. I like Zombie's H2 more than the first one. Halloween 4 is my second favorite, only behind Part 2, but not by much. Both are very entertaining. Watched them both at least 15-20 times over the years.

I wish I could get on board with Halloween 4 as much as so many other people seem to. I mean....I own it. I own them all on 4K except for the Rob Zombie ones which I don't own at all. The thing that makes me less inclined to REALLY like Halloween 4 (and 5, 6, H20 and Resurrection) is that it doesn't look or feel anything like something that John Carpenter had anything to do with. I know Carpenter hates Halloween II...and yeah, the whole "sister" angle is dumb...but that movie feels so much like Carpenter could have directed it. Same with Season of the Witch. So much so that I just count II and III as part of his filmography. 4 and 5 feel like they take place in the same universe as Children of the Corn lol. And their widescreen aspect ratio bothers me more than it probably should. 1.85 feels wrong for Halloween or anything even remotely connected to Carpenter..

For me, Sinners is one of the best vampire movies I have ever seen, so that pushes it into the realm of a masterpiece.

Halloween (1978)
Halloween II (1981)
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
Halloween Ends (2022)

The rest I don't really care for.
