For all of these changes you need Sony's permission. Without Sony servers handling that, you can't change any of that and when your 2 PS3s break down, your digital games are gone. Meanwhile I can play my physical PS3 games on other PS3s without problems.
There is also some silly CMOS battery issue. At least they fixed that on PS4 last year. It meant that when your CMOS battery runs out of power, you can't play any game at all anymore unless you get connection ONCE to Sony servers after replacing the battery. Yeah, nothing works not even physical games anymore.
On PS3 there is a similar problem, which hasn't been patched. I don't know the details anymore, but it affects digital downloads. Without Sony servers I think you can't play digital games anymore after battery replacement. CMOS batteries run around 10 years.

The CMOS battery died on my PS3 super slim last year. Without it, all kinds of oddities happen, including it being unable to use certain Themes, which come up as 'corrupted data' unless the clock is reset and then they're reloaded again.
I looked up how to change the battery, and the machines design is beyond stupid, the entire machine has to be literally dismantled in order to get to where the battery is, so it can be changed. So I've just left it as it is for now, and reset the clock whenever I turn it on. That still doesn't prevent issues such as the Theme problem. However, it hasn't actually stopped any games from working, at least so far.
Some won't work if the clock isn't reset, as if the default clock time is before the game was purchased, it confuses the system and it comes up as an error.
My older Phat machine is still going strong, the CMOS on that hasn't died yet. Odd that the much newer machine's battery died first.
