Holy schnikes, so last week when I got my 3800 I redownloaded the multi eq app from Audessy since I had bought it a few years back when I had my last Denon , and ran the calibration, turned off midrange compensation etc. and it sounded pretty good but not as great as with Dirac on my RZ50.
So I figured I’d buy the Dirac license when I could. And then I ran into this thread on AVS about a script someone made that takes your Multi EQ calibration file and works magic, used it last night and wow. Saved me 800 for the Dirac licenses, this EVO script makes my system sound even better than Dirac.

Amazing

I have also gone the A1 Evo-route and it really works. Now I can pinpoint every sound without problem. Only change on settings was turning the Cinema EQ on because there was too much treble on my ears.

Hi everyone! Just got my first Denon receiver.

Receiver: Denon X6700H
Projector: BenQ TK700

I’m trying to use the remote for my receiver to control everything in my theatre set up. I have set up CEC but it only allows me to turn everything on when the blu ray player starts, it doesn’t allow me to turn everything off without shutting down the projector.

I was able to program it to control my Panasonic Ub820 without issue.

Now I’m trying to use it to control my projector and I’ve had no luck. I haven’t been able to find anything that explicitly says how to enter the preset codes to control a TV, instead it just outlines how to enter them to control “blu ray players, CD players, or DVD players”

I assume I’m meant to just repeat this process using the TV AUDIO input button? I assume if I was able to register something to that input it would in turn give me control of the tv?

Bafflingly there are NO Benq codes listed on the preset codes pdf for the X6700H. However I found another set of codes for the X7200W and it listed the benq codes. I of course tried using them with the TV audio input but nothing worked.

Is this receiver really incapable of this even when older receivers were able to control benq devices or am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would really love having to track down another universal remote alternative if at all possible.

This post is more of a side-tangent, and I don't know if it equally reflects future/present models of this receiver.

My family has a AVR-x2700h for a good couple years, and we're happy with it. I put on the Phantom Thread UHD disc, which has an DTS:X audio option. Never owned a disc with DTS:X before, and it's kinda of a discontinued surround codec as almost all distributors these day opt for Dolby Atmos. On that note, when I had to put on a movie with Atmos surround, I had to change the audio sound from the remote, because it defaults to TrueHD. Consequently, the receiver doesn't auto-detect the difference between TrueHD and Atmos, so if I put on a movie that's Dolby TrueHD while the Atmos option remain selected, it'll show the reading on the display as "True HD + Surround".

Figure that was gonna happen with DTS:X, so I had the remote ready. But no, the receiver recognizes DTS:X as DTS:X, and encodes accordingly. Same with DTS:HD-MA; it just acknowledges the audio codec of the disc. I didn't need to change any options. Why is Atmos the one that needs to be adjusted manually?

Anyone have a recommendation model for my next receiver? I currently have the AVR-S920W from 2016. I'm looking to upgrade to get HDMI 2.1, HDR10+, VRR and high frame rate support.

It looks like the equivalent replacement would be the AVR-S970H. I'm very happy with how setup sounds currently but I do see people saying that the higher ends ones with MultiEQ XT and XT32 are worth looking into. There's basically a $500+ difference between the two. Any thoughts?

One thing that stinks is it seems like all of these receivers max out at 6 HDMI ports now where my current one has 7. I actually use all 7 ports (video game consoles mostly) so I don't know what to do there.

I currently have 6 HDMI ports and a dozen gaming consoles and other devices as well, and what I do is swap around the HDMI on couple of the less often used devices. Most of the time I find the 6 is just enough. One thing to note is that if you plan on gaming on PC, none of the current AVRs, to my knowledge, support 1440p above 60hz (even though they can do 4K 120hz) , so you will have to run one HDMI straight to TV and another to AVR for audio. A bit of a hassle, but it works.

As to recommendations, one would probably need to know more about your setup, especially speakers. I have a Denon X3800H and it works like a charm for my 5.2 setup with relatively easy to drive speakers and active subs. The MultiEQ room correction (with app) does wonders too, and was a big upgrade from my previous setup.

You should consider moving up to an X model version like the AVR-X2800H to take advantage of higher watts per channel and have Audyssey MultEQ XT (which the AVR-S970H does have). Or future proof and add come channels by getting the AVR-X4800H which is the lowest mode that has 7 HDMI's. But the price is a bit more.

I have a 5.1.2 Atmos setup. I'm a PC gamer but I use my PC on a monitor and not the TV. The TV is mostly for consoles. But yeah, I think I'll just swap HDMI cables on the two least used devices or hook them up to a HDMI splitter. It's just kind of annoying that the current line of receivers have 2 less HDMI ports than they used to.

Yeah. It's coming down to the AVR-S970H, AVR-X2800H or AVR-X3800H. I just spent a lot of money on the TV and wasn't even thinking about the receiver so it's bad timing. I can get the S970H for pretty cheap while the other models are $300-500 more. I just wasn't sure if the 5 additional watts per channel and XT version of MultiEQ is worth that extra amount of money.

Depends on what the main use is for. If you’re heavy into the movie (Atmos/DTS:X) experience and open to the 3800, I’d say do with that. You can even buy the Dirac license and really put some great sound to your experience. But if you’re happy with 7 channels and want to go parallel and less of an overall upgrade, then the 2800 should suffice. You’ll get the MultEQ XT and your receiver can process all the latest codecs.

I upgraded last year from a x6300 that I got in 2016 to the A1H. So I’m hopefully future proofed for the decade, which is my biggest concern.

The biggest gains you get from the X series is advanced Audyssey, but to really get the benefit, you have to go up to the XT32, which I believe is only found on the X3800 and up, which is a significant bump in cost.

I recently purchased an S970H from A4L, replacing an S720W from 2016, and find it to have more punch than the S720W and less handshake issues due to the updated HDMI. If you have relatively easy to drive speakers, I don't think it's necessarily worth it to spend $500 more for a bit more wattage and higher level of Audyssey. A receiver is generally something you replace every 5-10 years depending on new and advanced features, as opposed to speakers or subwoofers, that if you treat them right will last you for decades.

Why did someone at Denon decide it was a good idea to make volume increase at an exponential rate instead of linear? And there is no apparent way to turn this off? We are left with having to press Volume Up 20-30 times, or hold the button down for longer than a second to have our hearing eviscerated. This is seriously whack.

You can change the how much each press of the volume buttons changes the volume in the settings.
