Default Let's Hear For Fox 2013!

Let’s hear it for Fox! They released 45 Catalog titles on Blu-ray in 2013 (46 between Fox and Twilight Time and not counting the MGM catalogs they are distributing).

In comparison Warner had roughly 24 new releases (not counting double dips) - but only 16 were Warner films (and not counting the Paramount Films which Warner is just distributing)

Fox 2013:

1 In Old Arizona (1928)
2 Cavalcade 1933
3 Call of the Wild (1935)
4 Drums Along the Mohawk (1939)
5 How Green Was My Valley (1941)
6 The Black Swan (1942)
7 Jane Eyre (1943)
8 The Song of Bernadette (1943)
9 Laura (1944)
10 Leave Her to Heaven (1945)
11 Gentleman's Agreement (1947)
12 The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947)
13 A Letter to Three Wives (1949)
14 Panic in the Streets (1950)
15 On the Riviera (1951)
16 The Pony Solider (1952)
17 Viva Zapata! (1952)
18 Niagara (1953)
19 Titanic (1953)
20 Carmen Jones (1954)
21 Love is a Many Spender Thing (1955)
22 Bus Stop (1956)
23 Love Me Tender (1956)
24 Desk Set (1957)
25 The Fly (1958)
26 North to Alaska (1960)
27 Wild River (1960)
28 Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961)
29 The 300 Spartans (1962)
30 Cleopatra (1963)
31 Fantastic Voyage (1966)
32 Our Man Flint (1966)
33 In Like Flint (1967)
34 The Undefeated (1969)
35 Hello, Dolly! (1969)
36 The Only Game in Town (1970)
37 The Other (1972)
38 At Long Last Love (1975)
39 The Fury (1978)
40 Brubaker (1980)
41 The Verdict (1982)

As well as The Fury.

Btw, they're doing an awesome job this year. Especially, with their deeper catalogue stuff.

Fox have released a decent amount of catalog titles this year, but unfortunately, I'm not interested in most of them.

My bad. I always thought it's Sony

The 300 Spartans has been delayed until '14, though.

On the other hand, Sunrise is coming in November.

Good stuff.

(Too bad for me I can't find many of them in stores or they're packed in eco cases (and some of them arrive to me from online stores the worse for wear and tear - just sent one back yesterday). Got some good ones though.)

A few more observations:

The Driver is missing from the list.

Ditto for Sexy Beast.

And what about Fox titles distributed through Anchor Bay?

Volcano
Silver Streak
Stuck On You
Vital Signs
Lucas
The Pick-Up Artist
My Super Ex-Girlfriend
Dying Young
Jumpin' Jack Flash
The Newton Boys
Airheads
Bedazzled (2000)
The Star Chamber

etc.

That number is off by 50%.

And I fail to see what difference it makes whether Warner made the film or acquired the rights at a later date. A catalog release is a catalog release.

It would make a difference because my understanding is that Paramount chooses what Warner releases for them. So, the Paramount catalogs belong on a Paramount tally, not Warner.

Fox is hard to figure out. Some of their transfers are badly dated, struck for DVD. The other half are really excellent, often new scans of quality film elements.

I wasn't counting the Paramount titles, and neither was the OP.

Please re-read what I said:

Warner has never "acquired the rights" to the Paramount releases. They are distributing them for a fee, but the titles remain part of Paramount's catalog. The OP was referring to titles like The Wizard of Oz or Gone with the Wind, which are MGM films now owned by Warner.

Let's remove any ambiguity. These are Warner's 2013 catalog releases announced and/or released to date:
  1. The Jazz Singer
  2. Driving Miss Daisy
  3. Grand Hotel
  4. Mrs. Miniver
  5. A Star Is Born (1976)
  6. Cabaret
  7. Best in Show
  8. Easter Parade
  9. The Hudsucker Proxy
  10. Westworld
  11. Sparkle
  12. The Petrified Forest
  13. White Heat
  14. The Public Enemy
  15. Little Caesar
  16. Sommersby
  17. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
  18. Rendition
  19. Driven
  20. Running Scared
  21. Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes
  22. Action Jackson
  23. Passenger 57
  24. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
  25. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
  26. Next Friday
  27. House of Wax 3D
  28. The Big Parade
  29. Rebel Without a Cause
  30. Giant
  31. East of Eden
  32. The Right Stuff
  33. The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981)
  34. The Bishop's Wife
  35. In the Mouth of Madness
  36. Vegas Vacation
  37. The Nativity Story

(No need to point out that some of these are New Line. Everything New Line belongs to Warner.)

An impressive list, no doubt. The Presidio and Shaft (2000) both came from the Paramount deal, though.

well Fox did very little back in 2006, 2007, 2008, etc. etc. while warner was carrying the format as far as catalogs so that really explains the current Fox activity imo. Look, I'm thrilled Fox is finally releasing some great catalogs, but Warner has a larger library than anyone so the missing titles stand out and they have obviously slowed down since the beginning years of bd most likely because they failed to get the financial returns they were looking for. sad but true.
they now to be focusing on the Warner archive streaming site though they did release some great catalogs this year as part of their 90th anniversary celebration including what is imo the best catalog release of the year--the James Dean box set.
btw: counting TT Fox catalogs seems silly imo.

I'm only looking for one Fox catalog title to be released with a decent transfer: the original FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX. But if it's going to turn out like Von Ryan's Express then don't bother.

Oops. Thought I'd removed those. They're gone now.

I also forgot to include Surviving Christmas, which is hardly a major release, but it does have a fan base. It's added. And I left out the Friday the 13th box set, because it's kind of a hybrid release.

The Haunting is also coming out

edit: Vegas Vacation and The Nativity Story should be on the list too I believe
