This is not the first HK remake of a US film:
Corey Yuen's The Bodyguard From Beijing is a loose remake of Mick Jackson's The Bodyguard. Benny Chan's Connected is a remake of David R. Ellis' Cellular. Yimou Zhang's A Simple Noodle Story is a remake of the Coen Brothers' Blood Simple.
