Canada Bryston 6B mono power amplifier?

Does anyone know anything about these amps? How old?

Since I can't find much on it I'm guessing it's pretty old. I found a used pair close by with a price tag of $1200. I couldn't find much on google but this is the info I was given by the seller.

Rated power: 500 watts 8 ohms, 800 watts 4 ohms, 500 watts 2 ohms, 800 watts 1 ohm. They weigh about 50lb each. The 6B has been replaced with the 7BSST. In "as new" condition.

Is this a good deal? Quality of Bryston? Will it work with my current gear?

Greetings,
The 6b was before the 7b model. So i am guessing 20+ years old or so.
It won't have balanced connections and it will have an attached power cord.

It will work fine in your system as long as you have preouts on your reciever.

I wouldn't be concerned with the age as Bryston products are built like tanks.

$1200 for a pair would be a fair price. I saw a couple of these on Audiogon awhile ago and thought about them myself for rear channels.

I do believe the models go as follows. 6B,7B,7Bnrb,7Bst,7Bsst,and present
new version of 7Bsst..

Ozz is correct in that Bryston's are built like tanks. Additionally, they warranty their products for 20 years, which is unheard of even back then. It won't do you much good (the warranty), but the point is worth noting. I think $1200 is a decent price. Do you know anything about the buyer? How did he take care of his componants, etc.

Thanks for the info guys.

John I e-mailed the seller and he says it's in as new condition - well taken care of. I thought these 2 would be good to power each of my Studio 100's but I'm just not too sure about buying something over 20 years old even with the quality reputation of Bryston. I might just wait for another opportunity for something I can get more info on that still has a valid warranty. If it was 10 years old than that 20 year warranty would be perfect!

Thanks again ozz and John

I understand completely! They may go perfectly for another 20 years, but then again...they may not. And $1,200 is nothing to sneeze at!
